Refrigeration Engineers You Can Trust
ColdTec refrigeration engineers design, install, fix and service cold rooms across the UK. Every engineer holds an F-Gas certificate, drives a fully stocked van and fixes most faults on the first visit.

A cold room failure costs stock, time and trust. ColdTec sends engineers who arrive ready to work, not ready to order parts and return next week.
Every job is handled by one team, from the first survey to the last service. For the full list of work, see all refrigeration services.
What Our Engineers Do Every Day
Each engineer handles the full life of a cooling system. The job is never split across three contractors who blame each other when something breaks.
- Design. Heat load is worked out from stock, door openings and weather.
- Install. The room is built, the plant is mounted, pipework is run and controls are set.
- Service. Four visits a year clean, test and tune the system.
- Repair. Pressures and electrics are tested, the real fault is found and fixed properly.
- Certify. F-Gas records, leak tests and log books stay up to date.

Skills Our Engineers Hold
No apprentice is ever sent to site alone. Every engineer holds the right card for the job. This table shows the skills checked before an engineer goes into a van.
| Skill | What it covers | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| F-Gas certification | Legal right to handle refrigerant gas | Work without it is illegal and can void insurance |
| Refcom approval | Company registration on the UK F-Gas register | Proves the legal standard is met, not just claimed |
| Electrical testing | Motors, contactors, controls, wiring | Most breakdowns start as an electrical fault |
| Pressure and leak testing | Finding refrigerant leaks with gas and electronic tools | A slow leak costs gas, money and compliance |
| Controller programming | Set points, defrost cycles, alarms | Good control cuts the electricity bill fast |
| Brazing and pipework | Joining and repairing copper refrigerant lines | A clean joint stops leaks for the life of the plant |
F-Gas Certification and Refcom Approval
UK law controls who may touch refrigerant. Any engineer who works on a refrigerant circuit must hold a current F-Gas certificate, and the company must sit on a UK register.
ColdTec holds Refcom approval and ISO 9001:2015. Every engineer carries a card, and certificates are issued with every job.
Check any contractor before booking
Any contractor can be looked up on the Refcom register in under a minute. The official UK F-Gas guidance for users and operators shows what the law asks of businesses. Engineers also follow Health and Safety Executive guidance on work at height and confined spaces.

How Refrigeration Engineers Find a Fault
There is no guessing and no swapping parts until the alarm stops. The engineer tests, finds the cause and fixes the cause.
Fault-finding is the same on every call, from a small fridge to a large cold storage site. That keeps repairs fast and records complete.

Listen
What changed, when it started and what the controller says.
Look
Coils, fans, door seals and pipework are checked by eye.
Test the electrics
Motors, contactors and sensors are tested with meters.
Test the gas
Pressures are checked and leaks are hunted down.
Read the controller
The log shows what the system recorded.
Fix and prove it
The room runs and the temperature is logged before the engineer leaves.
Tools and Parts Carried in Every Van
Every van is stocked with the parts that fail most often. That is why most jobs finish on the first visit, with no return trip.
Stocked vans also power the 24/7 emergency refrigeration repair service, so most urgent faults are fixed on the spot.

| In the van | What it fixes |
|---|---|
| Digital controllers | Wrong temperature, alarm faults |
| Fan motors | No airflow, iced coils |
| Expansion valves | Poor cooling, high superheat |
| Contactors and relays | Plant will not start |
| Pressure controls | Short cycling, cut-outs |
| Common refrigerant | Low charge, top-ups |
| Leak detectors | Hidden refrigerant leaks |

Emergency Call-Outs
A cold room does not break down at a convenient time. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, and contract clients jump the queue. The 24/7 emergency refrigeration repair team carries the parts listed above, so most faults are fixed on the spot.
Paperwork is covered too. Every visit adds to the maintenance and repair record, so the F-Gas file stays complete. See the cold room maintenance and repair contracts.

Refrigeration Engineer FAQs
Are refrigeration engineers certified to handle refrigerant?
Yes. Every ColdTec engineer holds a current F-Gas certificate, and the company holds Refcom approval and ISO 9001:2015. Certificates are issued with every job. Any contractor can be checked on the Refcom register.
How fast can refrigeration engineers reach a site?
Contract clients get priority. A realistic arrival window is given on the call, not a number that cannot be hit. Distance and time of day both matter, and honesty beats over-promising.
Do engineers repair systems they did not install?
Yes. Work covers Copeland, Bitzer, Danfoss, Carrier, Searle and most other makes. The report on its condition is honest, and it says whether repair, refurbishment or replacement gives the better return.
Will the engineer bring the right part?
Usually yes. Vans carry controllers, fan motors, expansion valves, contactors, pressure controls and common refrigerant. That is why most repairs finish on the first visit.
Can refrigeration engineers cut an energy bill?
Almost always. Engineers clean coils, correct the gas charge, recalibrate the controller, fix the defrost cycle and check door seals. Poor control and dirty coils waste more energy than most broken parts.
Do engineers work on commercial fridges as well as cold rooms?
Yes. Display chillers, cellar cooling, prep counters, ice machines and bottle coolers are all installed and serviced. See the commercial refrigeration installation service.
How often should an engineer service a cold room?
Four times a year. Quarterly visits catch leaks, blocked coils, worn seals and tired motors before they spoil stock. See the cold room maintenance contracts.
